Head-On Collision Injures Four In West Valley
Head-on collisions often seem inexplicable. How can a driver find himself driving against traffic on a divided highway? For no apparent reason, Salt Lake City has experienced three wrong-way collisions over the last two weeks. The most recent head-on collision occurred on August 19 on State Route 201 southwest of downtown Salt Lake City.
The collision
The Utah Highway Patrol received calls about a wrong-way driver heading west on SR 201 at about 11:40 p.m. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle, but they were too late. Before troopers reached wrong-way vehicle, a minivan, it had collided with a silver sedan. After the initial collision, the sedan was immediately side-swiped by a pickup truck. Troopers were able to remove the driver of the minivan and the driver and passenger in the sedan from their vehicles. The three were hospitalized in serious to critical condition. The driver of the pickup truck was also hospitalized in serious condition.
The Utah Highway Patrol said that the driver of the minivan appeared to be “impaired.” No further information was released.
The aftermath
The driver of the sedan and his passenger may suffer life-long consequences from their injuries. Automobile accidents often leave permanent after-effects that impair the victim’s ability to work or attend to daily affairs.
Anyone who has suffered a serious injury or lost a loved one under similar circumstances may wish to explore the possibility of recovering damages from the party at fault for the accident. In such cases, the assistance of an experienced West Valley City personal injury attorney can be invaluable. A knowledgeable lawyer can evaluate the evidence, suggest legal arguments to support a favorable outcome, and provide an estimate of the likelihood of recovering damages for medical expenses, past and future lost income and pain and suffering.
